Darren Fletcher has confirmed three members of his backroom staff ahead of his first match as Manchester United interim manager.

Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday, which has led to an unexpected search for a new head coach midway through the 2025/26 campaign.

Amorim’s entire coaching staff departed United along with the 40-year-old, who lasted just 14 months at Old Trafford before being sent his marching orders.

United opted to make Darren Fletcher interim manager while they decided what to do next, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen on the caretaker’s position until the end of the season.

With United sitting sixth in the Premier League, a win over Burnley on Wednesday could push the Red Devils closer to the Champions League spots.

That will be the ultimate objective for whoever takes charge of the team for the remainder of the season, if United don’t give the role to Fletcher.

Jonny Evans will work alongside Darren Fletcher

Fletcher is United’s interim manager for the foreseeable future.

The former United midfielder, who took charge of United’s U18s ahead of this season, has announced that Jonny Evans will be assisting him in the upcoming Premier League clash against Burnley.

Evans retired from football after his final season as a United player last season, but he only recently left the club after taking on a role leading loans and pathways into the first team.

U21s boss Travis Binnion and Alan Wright will form the coaching team for the trip to Turf Moor.

When asked about his backroom staff for the game, Fletcher told reporters at his pre-match press conference: “So Travis Binnion, who leads the U21s, who I started my coaching career with in the Academy, whom I’ve known for five years that I’ve been here.

“I actually couldn’t ask for anybody better beside me than Travis, we’ve got such a close relationship together, for such a long time, [he is] somebody I respect, somebody who I’ve learned a lot from.

“His assistant, Alan Wright, who is newly joined [at] the club as well, so the Under-21s staff come and join me, and Jonny Evans has come in to help as well.

“[He is] somebody who has a great association with the club, recently played, knows the players, is comfortable in the environment and a familiar face for the group and the players as well, so those three will assist me for the game tomorrow.”

One member of Ruben Amorim’s staff remains

Amorim brought a number of coaches with him from Sporting CP, where he won the league title twice.

His backroom staff at United included Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, Jorge Vital and Paulo Barreira.

They all have departed Old Trafford, along with Amorim.
