Dan Gore was not among the scorers, but the 21-year-old midfielder was the beating heart of a ruthless second-half display from academy graduates.
Gore put on an ‘electric’ display against Wrexham in the opening pre-season defeat to Wrexham last week, and he strengthened his case for a first-team position with another strong performance against Rosenborg.

Michael Carrick faces crunch Dan Gore decision
At 21 years old, Gore is one of United’s more experienced graduates.
Last season, Gore stood out on loan at Rotherham and proved that he can handle the physicality and tempo of senior football.
He cannot wait around much longer for a first-team opportunity at United. Gore made his United debut in 2023, but he has been unable to cement a regular matchday position.
It is coming to a crunch decision for Carrick, to stick with Gore or sell him and move on.
United are going through a midfield rebuild this summer with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans already signed and a third signing expected.
If Gore is not part of the first-team squad next season, it will likely signal the end of his chances.

Rewind back to 2022, and James Garner found himself in a very similar position to the one Gore is currently in.
Garner was 21 years old and in United’s pre-season squad, pushing for a first-team chance under Erik ten Hag.
It never came. Garner was loaned to Nottingham Forest and then subsequently sold to Everton for £15 million.

Since then, Garner has become a Premier League star with the Toffees, and his market value has soared to £50 million. United were linked with Garner as a potential option for this summer’s rebuild.
