Manchester United academy star Chido Obi has enjoyed a meteoric rise to success since joining in the summer.

During Ineos’ first transfer window in charge of Manchester United, they made an effort to bring in several exciting academy talents as well as spending £200m on five major signings.

Chido Obi was poached from Arsenal with the 17-year-old widely considered one of the most promising talents in the country.

United promised Obi a pathway to the first team and Ruben Amorim kept that promise when Obi made his debut against Tottenham in February.

Obi has blown away coaches in training, and he looks set to have a bright future at Old Trafford. His progress made this season has not gone unnoticed.

Chido Obi wins Comet of the Year award in Denmark

Not only has Chido Obi made an exciting breakthrough in Manchester, but Obi has also impressed Danish coaches while on international duty.

Amorim is showing more and more faith in Obi this season, and he could stake a claim as a starter next season.

After his rise to United’s first team, Danish outlet Bold have named Obi as the ‘Comet of the Year’ for 2025.

It is an award designed to recognise a young player who has made his breakthrough, and Obi was a clear winner with “several central sources in and around the Danish talent environment” voting for him.

Obi celebrated his success on Instagram, sharing a post from his agency Elite Group Project.

Chido Obi can expect more Premier League minutes this season

When looking for an equaliser against Bournemouth, Amorim turned to Obi on the bench to get United level.

Sadly, Obi is not in United’s Europa League squad so he is ineligible to feature in that competition this season.

However, Amorim is trusting academy players in the league, and Obi can expect to pick up plenty of minutes before the season comes to a close.

With United facing Athletic Club in the Europa League on Thursday evening, it could pave the way for Obi to start for United against Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Amorim has told Obi to keep working hard, and a strong end to the season could set him up for an important role in pre-season and the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
