Manchester United Europa League squad

Manchester United have added two players to the Europa League squad, new signings Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu.

Young forward Chido Obi is not part of the squad. Manchester United say he is ineligible to add.

A statement on the club website reads: “Chido Obi is ineligible for the competition, as he cannot be added to the B list due to only signing for the academy last year.”

The statement is a little confusing, because Ayden Heaven also left Arsenal in the same seasonal year, and while penciled in immediately as a first team signing, Chido Obi actually made his first team debut before Heaven did.

The difference between the two is that Heaven can qualify as a homegrown player as he is English, while Obi is from Denmark.

Manchester United have added five academy players to the squad via the B list.

Harry Amass, Louis Jackson, Habeeb Ogunneye, Jack Fletcher and Jayce Fletcher have all been included.

This squad stands for the remainder of the competition all the way to and including the final, should United be fortunate enough to get there.

Striker problems for Manchester United

While he missed out on his first goal for the club, Chido Obi was lively and outplayed Rasmus Hojlund during his substitute performance against Fulham.

Rasmus Hojlund has not scored a goal since the start of December. This did come in the Europa League, against Plzen.

Hojlund does have five goals in eight games in the competition this season. He will likely lead the line by default against Real Sociedad, and will need to make the most of yet another chance.
