Chris Sutton drops major Man Utd vs Bournemouth prediction as Ruben Amorim has ‘exceptional’ talent among his ranks

BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton has made a clear-cut scoreline prediction for Manchester United’s forthcoming Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils will welcome Premier League side Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Sunday, with kick-off slated for 2pm UK time.

Manchester United defied the odds and secured a stunning 2-1 Premier League comeback win against Manchester City at the Etihad last week.

However, Amorim’s men suffered defeat on Thursday evening after Tottenham knocked United out of the Carabao Cup in the quarter-finals in a 4-3 win.

United are 13th in the Premier League table after 16 league matches played and the Red Devils are six points adrift from the top four.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, are three points clear of United in sixth place and Andoni Iraola’s men are only three points off from fourth-place Nottingham Forest.

Sutton reacts to Amorim and Man Utd

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, Chris Sutton claimed that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford “does not sound” like he has the “stomach” to fight for his place.

Ruben Amorim made the huge decision to drop Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for the 2-1 win over Manchester City last Sunday.

Rashford has struggled for form this season and the England star has seen his future at Old Trafford plunged into doubt amid Amorim’s big call last weekend.

The 27-year-old United star has since broken his silence after Amorim dropped him and he has now suggested that his time at the Red Devils could come to an end.

“While every Manchester United fan was smiling after last weekend’s derby, they are still 13th, seven places below Bournemouth in the table,” Sutton said.

“There is an awful lot of work to be done at Old Trafford and it does not sound like Marcus Rashford has the stomach for the fight.

“From what he has said this week, it seems like he wants out and it feels like many United fans would say ‘good riddance.’

“The new United manager, Ruben Amorim, does not have an agenda against Rashford, but he is trying to set some standards in his first few weeks at the club.”

Sutton admitted that Amad Diallo has been a shining light for Amorim since the United manager’s arrival from Sporting CP in November.

Amad Diallo has been in a stunning run of form and the 22-year-old Ivorian attacker has firmly established himself in the United first-team squad.

The Ivory Coast international has adapted to Amorim’s demands on the pitch, including playing in an attacking position and being deployed as a wing-back.

Sutton called Amad “exceptional” after Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, but the BBC Sport pundit has backed Bournemouth to beat United 2-1 in Sunday’s contest.

“Back to the game, and I was at Old Trafford in December last year when the Cherries won 3-0,” he added.

“I love what Andoni Iraola has done at Bournemouth and they have been great to watch this season too – they always create loads of opportunities.

“While Amad Diallo has been exceptional since Amorim arrived, United remain a very average team, and I fancy Bournemouth to repeat their result from 12 months ago.

“United fans get very angry whenever I predict they will lose, and can be quite bullish about it on social media – although they are usually wise after the event rather than making a call before the game like me. I wonder how confident they are feeling at the moment?”
