Ruben Amorim has been urged to put his mindset into one place after Manchester United suffered a 4-3 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

The Red Devils travelled away to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for their quarter-final tie in the cup competition and failed to secure progression to the semi-finals.

Manchester United and Spurs suffered major setbacks in the match after howlers from shot-stoppers Fraser Forster and Altay Bayindir.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men did enough to hold on and seal the win on Thursday evening, with Altay Bayindir heavily criticised for his performance.

Dominic Solanke completed his brace for Spurs and Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min netted for Tottenham during the Carabao Cup tie.

Goals from Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Jonny Evans were not enough to allow Ruben Amorim’s men to keep their place in the cup competition.

Amorim receives a Man Utd message

Ruben Amorim had received a major boost in confidence ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after Manchester United’s comeback win against Manchester City.

However, the Red Devils were left chasing the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and United’s momentum was thwarted by Altay Bayindir’s woeful performance.

United manager Amorim will now switch his focus to this Sunday for the Red Devils’ Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Former United player Gordon Hill took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and urged the Red Devils to “pick themselves up” after a “typical cup football” result.

He added that United must “concentrate” on their Premier League standing after their setback in the Carabao Cup at the hands of Spurs.

“Game over [and] Spurs [are] into the semi [final], [seven] goals, [four] mistakes and United on their way home,” Hill wrote.

“Back to the bread and butter and pick themselves up and concentrate on the league position. Typical cup football.”

Amorim reacts to Man Utd defeat vs Tottenham

Speaking after the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Amorim insisted that he felt United were the “best team” on the night.

“We showed that in the past games also when we were losing in difficult moments,” he told Sky Sports, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We disconnect in the beginning of the second half, it was a tough moment for us, like 10 minutes.

“And then we return, I think we did a great job. I think if you look at all the game, I think we were the best team but they [Spurs] were more clinical.

“We lose the game but the fight from the lads was really important for me.”
