One of the most intriguing potential deals of the transfer window has emerged with Chido Obi-Martin interested in a move to Manchester United.
The possible transfer of a 16-year-old striker would normally be a footnote, a minor story, in the context of a major team’s transfer window.
In the case of Chido Obi-Martin, his speculated switch from Arsenal to Manchester United is major news, considering his elite potential.
Obi-Martin scored 32 goals in 19 under-18s games last season. He has now decided to quit Arsenal, The Athletic report, and is interested in a move to Manchester United.

Chido Obi-Martin on Rasmus Hojlund
Manchester United fans are keen on the idea of signing Chido Obi-Martin, poaching Arsenal’s best academy talent.
Predictably, Arsenal fans are less enthused, and have been asking why Obi-Martin wants to leave, wondering if a move to United is money-motivated.
However, Obi-Martin may have more personal reasons for wanting to join Manchester United, his admiration for Rasmus Hojlund.
In an interview with Danish outlet Bold.dk earlier this year, Obi-Martin was asked to pick out a role model who has played for Denmark, past or present – and picked out the Manchester United forward.
Obi-Martin said: “I really like Rasmus Højlund. He is strong and powerful, so you can learn a lot from him.
“At the start he didn’t score that much for United, but now he has really found his form.”
He believes he can offer something a little different, hinting at a possible partnership, adding: “He is left-footed, I am right-footed, but we can both score goals.”
Obi-Martin has World Cup dream
Chido Obi-Martin represented England at under16 level but has since committed his future to Denmark, playing for their under-17s.
He commented: “I hope to be able to play in the Danish national team for a long time, so I hope it’s just Denmark.
“My dream is to win big things, for a long time I have dreamed of winning the European Championship or World Cup with Denmark, so it will be great.”
This creates extra incentive for Obi-Martin to want to sign for Manchester United, where he can compete with and learn to play alongside Rasmus Hojlund.
Add in the tutelage of new coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, and a move to Manchester United could be the perfect place for him to hone his skills, and also prepare for World Cup 2026.
The young striker is yet to confirm the choice of his next club, but Manchester United are in a strong position, per Fabrizio Romano.
His comments on Rasmus Hojlund add further intrigue into a possible deal which has got United fans talking.
