Bruno Fernandes’ six-word message to Sergio Reguilon after loan spell ends, two other Man Utd stars react

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes left a wholesome message for Sergio Reguilon after the Tottenham star’s loan spell at Old Trafford came to an end.

The Red Devils on Thursday confirmed that Reguilon, who was signed on deadline day in 2023, would be returning to Spurs after the club triggered his break clause.

United brought the Tottenham defender to Old Trafford to provide Erik ten Hag with additional cover at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

The Red Devils’ deal with Spurs was for a season-long loan, but a break clause was interested in the agreement and it allowed United to terminate the loan in January.

United confirmed on their official website that Reguilon had “fulfilled the role he was brought in” to do and the Red Devils had agreed to send him back to Tottenham.

England defender Shaw returned in 2023 after a three-month absence on the sideline and second-choice left-back Malacia is inching closer to his United return.

Fernandes’ message to Reguilon

Reguilon posted a heartfelt message on Instagram after his departure from United was confirmed, with both David de Gea and Kobbie Mainoo reacting to his post.

United fans were also divided when the news first emerged that Reguilon, who made 12 appearances for Ten Hag’s men this season, could be axed from Old Trafford.

Fernandes, who recently sent a message to another departing United player, took to social media and posted a heartfelt comment on Reguilon’s Instagram post.

“I’m going to miss you tontito,” he wrote.

‘Tontito’ translated from Spanish to English means ‘silly,’ and Reguilon has not reacted to Fernandes’ message at the time of writing.

United full-back Diogo Dalot also posted a heart emoji and Red Devils winger Alejandro Garnacho shared a heart emoji alongside a sad face emoji.

Reguilon’s United departure came at right time

Reguilon did impress United fans during his limited appearances this season, but the Tottenham defender is no longer needed with Malacia coming back from injury.

United are out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup, with the Red Devils only competing in the FA Cup and Premier League now.

Reguilon’s playing time would have been reduced even further and Ten Hag doesn’t need three left-back options for the remainder of United’s season.

That’s not to mention that Ten Hag can also call on Dalot to play at left-back if Malacia or Shaw are unavailable or if either United player needs to be rested.
