Luke Shaw is back

Luke Shaw has only played two matches for Manchester United this season, before suffering an injury in August.

His injury came amid fitness problems to his back-up, Tyrell Malacia, who has been out of action all season.

While Malacia is working towards a return too, Shaw is considered to be more advanced and could be under consideration for this weekend’s trip to Everton.

United face the Toffees at Goodison Park on Sunday in a 4.30pm kick-off. Shaw’s return is certainly a welcome development.

Shaw gives United options

Luke Shaw is Manchester United’s first choice left-back, and he has also proven to be a more than useful option at centre-back, starting in games against Barcelona and Manchester City at the position last season.

He gives United options, amid Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans being out injured at centre-back.

Sergio Reguilon or Diogo Dalot are alternatives at left-back if United choose to play Shaw in the centre, alongside Harry Maguire – although Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane are options too.

United may decided that a return at centre-back is preferable as it will demand less of Shaw physically, in terms of getting up and down the pitch on the left.

When Shaw does play on the left, he could be a real help to Rasmus Hojlund. No Manchester United player delivered more accurate crosses last season than Shaw.
