Bruno Fernandes lavished praise on one Manchester United star after the Red Devils staged a late comeback against Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.
Amad Diallo’s show-stealing hat-trick late in the second half sealed Manchester United’s first win of 2025 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
Southampton stunned United in the first half after taking the lead thanks to their corner taking a deflection off the back of Manuel Ugarte.
United were left chasing the Premier League match after the break, with the Red Devils showing more weakness from set-pieces under Ruben Amorim.
However, Amad Diallo cancelled out Southampton’s lead in the 82nd minute before putting United 2-1 up in the 90th minute at the Theatre of Dreams.
The 22-year-old Ivory Coast international, who has inked his long-term future with United, capped off his performance by completing his hat-trick in injury time.
Fernandes’ praise for Man Utd star
Manchester United will now return to action on Sunday when they host Premier League side Brighton at Old Trafford, with kick-off slated for 2pm UK time.
The Red Devils’ 3-1 win over Southampton has moved Ruben Amorim’s men to 12th place in the Premier League table after 21 league matches this season.
United are now 10 points clear of the relegation zone and the Red Devils are 12 points adrift from the Premier League top four.
Bruno Fernandes took to Instagram and praised Christian Eriksen for his impact during a key moment in the Southampton match on Thursday.
Christian Eriksen climbed off the bench in the 82nd minute for Noussair Mazraoui and the United star set up Amad Diallo for the Red Devils’ second.
The 32-year-old Danish midfielder played a superb one-two with Amad before producing an Eric Cantona-esque chipped ball over the top for the United winger.
Amad latched onto Eriksen’s chipped through-ball and the Ivory Coast winger buried the ball into the back of the Southampton net with a first-time sliding finish.
Fernandes was left in awe at Eriksen’s “magical touch” with the ball and waxed lyrical about his United teammate’s stunning assist.
Posting on Instagram Stories, he wrote: “What a lovely ball. Magical touch.”
Amorim’s reaction to Eriksen’s assist
Christian Eriksen has appeared sporadically for United in the 2024-25 campaign and the Denmark midfielder is out of contract with the Red Devils in the summer.
Speaking after the Southampton match, Amorim was asked about Eriksen’s assist and whether or not United fans could see more of the midfielder this season.
“Depends on the players, the work that they do,” he said at his post-match press conference, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“He has the quality to do that kind of pass, and we need all the players to win games.
“So, 10 minutes or 90 minutes, all the players are important to change the course of the season.”
