Manchester United fans have rightfully waxed lyrical about a “brilliant” player under Ruben Amorim after the Red Devils’ stunning comeback win against Southampton at Old Trafford.

Premier League strugglers Southampton stunned Manchester United in the first half after Ivan Juric’s men took the lead before half-time on Thursday evening.

Ruben Amorim’s men once again conceded from a set-piece, with a Southampton corner taking a huge deflection off the back of Manuel Ugarte.

However, United staged a dramatic comeback late into the second half and Amad Diallo ensured that the Red Devils sealed all Premier League three points.

Amad Diallo pulled United level in the 82nd minute before the 22-year-old Ivorian attacker netted his brace eight minutes later and put the Red Devils 2-1 up.

The Ivory Coast international, who recently penned a new deal with United, completed his sensational hat-trick in injury time at Old Trafford.

Man Utd talent shines at Old Trafford

Manchester United have won two of their three matches under manager Ruben Amorim across all competitions since the start of 2025.

The Red Devils picked up a 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month before knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup on penalties at the Emirates.

Amorim oversaw United’s form fall off a cliff at the end of 2024, with the Red Devils losing four consecutive matches across all competitions last December alone.

United climbed to 12th place in the Premier League table after the win over Southampton and the Red Devils are now 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Amorim hinted ahead of the encounter with Ivan Juric’s side that youth academy product Toby Collyer could play for United in the Premier League match.

Toby Collyer came off the bench last Sunday in the third-round FA Cup tie and the 21-year-old defensive midfielder impressed with his cameo against Arsenal.

United manager Amorim put his faith in the United youngster against Southampton after he hooked Manuel Ugarte off in the 54th minute.

Collyer put in a real shift in the second half for United and the midfielder stepped up big time for the Red Devils as they chased the match at Old Trafford.

Man Utd fans react to Collyer after Southampton match

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, praised Toby Collyer for another strong showing and tipped him for a bright future under Amorim.

“Toby Collyer deserves praise, too. Plays with so much calmness and is making an impact,” one Red Devils account said.

Another added: “Toby Collyer has earned a start. Gives his all every single time.”

Someone else suggested: “Can we talk about Toby Collyer, by the way? In the lower and middle phases, he’s a really good player. Always asks for the ball, tidy on the ball, has more to show, to be honest, covers [the] ground exceptionally and physically fine. The lad has a lot to him, [he] needs to build on it. Fan.”

While a fourth tweeted: “Toby Collyer, back-to-back mature performances against Arsenal and Southampton!”

“Collyer rightly preferred to Casemiro now. He did very well once again,” another wrote.

A sixth United fan said: “Tony Collyer showing once again why he deserves to be in this Manchester United squad. He’ll be really important player in Ruben Amorim’s side moving forward.”

Somebody else posted: “Collyer deserves a start at this point. He has been brilliant every time he comes on.”

And an eighth X user commented: “Another nice cameo from Collyer. He’s a real option now, which is great to see.”
