Bruno Fernandes shares that Phil Jones’ return to training has been a success

When Bruno Fernandes is with Manchester United, the intensity automatically increases on and off the pitch.

Fernandes is a winner and he has demonstrated this by still remaining unbeaten in away league matches ever since he joined the club in January 2020.

Now part of United’s mini-training camp in Scotland, Fernandes’ desire to win is continuing to shine through.

Fernandes posted a picture of the winning team from the training session, of which he was unsurprisingly a part.

Successful return for Phil Jones

Notable in Fernandes’ picture was the presence of Phil Jones, taking his first training session with teammates since the 2019/20 season.

Jones has had terrible luck with injuries, and has never played a first team game alongside Fernandes. His last game for the club was the 2-0 home defeat to Burnley at Old Trafford before Fernandes was signed.

Last season Jones was pictured at Carrington in April but only did light sessions and individual work, away from his teammates.

Now he has linked back up with his teammates and appears to have not only made it through the session without an injury, but also ended up on the winning team.

Small moments like this will help restore Jones’ confidence, and his mental health is as important as his physical fitness after so long away from the game, and so frequently being seen as a figure of fun.

Jones will be looking to get his career back on track and that could well mean a loan move or permanent exit, depending on the offers which come in. But one step at a time.

He has made it through the first day, now he has to complete the week, and then potentially get some game time in a friendly. Then one or two offers might begin to present themselves.

With Bruno and club captain Harry Maguire pushing him on, Jones may have a chance to get back to his old self.
