Manchester United’s decision to extend Lee Grant’s contract has puzzled some supporters.
Red Devils top scorer Bruno Fernandes feels it is fully deserved.
Commenting on social media after the contract extension was announced, Fernandes welcomed the news. He was also referring to Juan Mata’s extension which was announced earlier in the day.
Fernandes had earlier congratulated Mata on his extension, while also jokily bemoaning having to wait another year for his number 8 shirt.
Number three or four?
Right now Lee Grant is Manchester United’s fourth choice goalkeeper.
He sits behind David de Gea, Dean Henderson, and now Tom Heaton.
But being fourth choice is a pretty defunct role, when Grant did not play a single minute as third choice in 2020/21.
So you would expect one of the goalkeepers in front of him to leave.
It leave a big question over both the futures of Dean Henderson and David de Gea. At present it is unclear which way United will lean.
For one more season at least, Grant seems to have a role though. Whether that will involve playing an actual game in 2021/22, time will tell.
