Bruno Fernandes will have the chance to meet new Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim when he returns from international duty.

Manchester United moved quickly to replace Erik ten Hag after his sacking and Ruben Amorim was welcomed to Carrington on Monday afternoon.

The 39-year-old is still waiting for his work visa before taking training with his new squad, but Amorim has already held talks with United chiefs about his plans at the club.

Amorim met with United players on Tuesday but will have to wait a while before the 14 United players on international duty return to Manchester.

One of those is club captain Bruno Fernandes, who jetted out to meet up with the Portugal squad before Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

What Bruno Fernandes said about Ruben Amorim

After a poor start to the season, Fernandes was in superb form under Ruud van Nistelrooy and he will hope to carry that momentum with him when he returns to Manchester.

Both Fernandes and Amorim joined United from Sporting, although their paths never crossed at the Portuguese club.

Now at Old Trafford, Fernandes is looking forward to working with his compatriot.

Speaking to Manchester United in an exclusive interview, Fernandes said: “Obviously I watched almost all the games of Sporting. As I said in many interviews, he is someone who brought the excitement back to the club. He brought a lot of good things and hopefully he can do the same here.

“Sometimes a person can change the energy of a space if it is the right moment.

“He has done something really special at Sporting.”

When asked what stands out about Amorim, Fernandes said: “Obviously for me what stands out is the connection he has with the players.

“You see it at the end of the game when a manager is going from your club in the middle of a season, you see the way they say goodbye to him, they way they make him feel a part of the team. It shows he is a great character.

“He is someone who gives their all to the players. I have seen many moments where players were struggling and he kept faith with them and defended them in press conferences. He had a really youthful team so they needed that.

“Hopefully when he comes here he can do the same with the youth. Us players with more experience have to help him to get that and get the best out of every player.”

How Bruno Fernandes will fit Ruben Amorim’s tactics at Man United

Amorim is expected to implement a 3-4-3 formation at United which is bound to be a big learning curve for much of the squad.

However, when looking at how Amorim could line up at United, one of the players it suits the most is Fernandes who will likely slot in as one of two No.10s in Amorim’s system.

Amorim sent a warning to Fernandes ahead of his move to Manchester as he joked that United’s captain “might not be so excited” once they get to work.

Fernandes will be expected back in Manchester after Portugal’s Nations League fixture against Croatia on November 18th. That leaves just shy of a week for him to get familiar with Amorim before the trip to face Ipswich Town.
