This season Fernandes has scored 14 goals and provided nine assists. He tops the charts for United in both categories.

Last season Fernandes managed 12 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

That’s 26 goals and 17 assists in one calendar year; 43 goal contributions in total.

We won’t pick out the individual players he forced out of the side to spare them the shame, but it is fair to say they struggled to hit a tenth of this figure.

Fernandes front runner to win player of the year

Fernandes has won three Premier League player of the month awards during his first season at Manchester United. He could end the year by winning a fourth.

At this stage Fernandes appears to be a clear front runner to win the player of the year award, not just for United again, but for the Premier League.

No player has produced at any club with the same kind of consistency as Fernandes.

He has matched and then surpassed expectations, dragging up the level of those around him with his own high standards.

Even opposition fans who hoped Fernandes would flop, have now come around to conceding defeat and admit he is top class. He cannot have many doubters left at this point.

The only thing left for Fernandes to add is a trophy, and at the rate he is going, United have a strong chance. Wearing the number 18 shirt once made famous by Paul Scholes was a lot of pressure, but Fernandes is living up to it.

Fernandes is an undisputed superstar, and 2020 has been quite a ride. 2021 could be even better, and it surely will be if he manages to match or exceed his numbers from this year.
