Manchester United loanee Teden Mengi was brought off against Bournemouth due to picking up a hamstring injury.
The 19-year-old was making his eighth straight start for Birmingham City after joining the Championship side on loan last month.
But Mengi had to be withdrawn midway through the second half and the Blues boss Lee Bowyer gave an update on the Manchester United loanee, via the club’s official website.
Bowyer said: “Young Teden Mengi has just felt his hamstring there too. This division is ruthless and demanding and asks a lot of questions of you physically. You need the squad to cope with that.”
The Manchester United academy graduate was brought off in the 63rd minute at a time when his side was trailing 2-0.
The Cherries went on to win the clash at the Vitality Stadium 3-1.
However, Mengi, who made his Champions League debut in December, couldn’t stop Dominic Solanke from scoring Bournemouth’s second.
After being on the pitch for just over an hour, the centre-back had made three tackles, one interception and four clearances before being replaced.
He won three duels and completed 94% of his attempted passes.
BirminghamLive gave Mengi a 6.5 rating for his 60-minute performance against Scott Parker’s side.
The report read: “Had a lot of covering to do behind Pedersen and Colin and did it pretty well. Hobbled off injured in the second half.”
In better news for the St Andrew’s side on the injury front regarding Manchester United loanees, after a “little hiccup” on the Red Devils part, Tahith Chong was back at the Championship side yesterday.
The Dutch youngster will finish the season with Bowyer’s side and could make his return to action in the next couple of weeks.
The 22-year-old hasn’t played since October after picking up a groin injury which required surgery.
