Michael Carrick has predicted Benjamin Sesko to step up and chip in with some goals, and it would be brilliant timing for the 22-year-old as he faces the side that desperately tried to sign him in the summer.

During the summer transfer window, Newcastle outbid United for Sesko, offering £69 million to RB Leipzig for the Slovenian striker.

United had already beaten the Tyneside outfit to Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha earlier in the summer, and Benjamin Sesko followed in their footsteps to complete a move to Old Trafford.

Sesko has no regrets about joining United over other clubs, and on Boxing Day he’ll have a chance to prove that he made the right decision in the summer.

When both offers were on the table, Sesko only wanted to join United and he directly rejected Newcastle.

The Red Devils currently sit three points above Newcastle in the Premier League table, and Sesko can have his say on extending that gap.

Benjamin Sesko’s record at Man United so far

In 14 appearances this season, Sesko has scored twice and assisted once for United. On paper, it is a fairly underwhelming record.

But context is important. Sesko has only played 712 minutes of Premier League football this season, completing a full 90-minute match just three times.

Sesko’s Premier League stats also reveal that his chances have only been worth a combined 2.29 xG (expected goals). So while he is ever so slightly underperforming in front of goal, the biggest issue is the chances being created for him.

The good news is that Amorim is a big admirer of Sesko and has been nothing but complimentary about his attitude and work rate behind the scenes.

The goals will come, and hopefully that begins against Newcastle United later this week.
