Ben Foster has now singled out Bruno Fernandes alongside another key first-team Manchester United star for their impact under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes has been a sensational force for Manchester United ever since his arrival from Sporting CP during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s record without Bruno Fernandes is not great…
What is your biggest fear about Bruno being out of action?
The 31-year-old midfielder has been an influential – and deeply impactful – player on the pitch for the Red Devils and a key leader after ascending to the United captaincy.
Fernandes was linked with a move away back in the summer, but the ex-Sporting CP ace turned down interest from Saudi Arabia and remained at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils skipper, who is under contract with United until 2027, is widely considered the Premier League club’s best signing in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Ben Foster on the standout qualities of Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha for Man Utd
Bruno Fernandes has dropped into a deeper midfield role in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for Manchester United in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
The United captain has seen a position change after the arrival of Matheus Cunha, who was snapped up from Premier League side Wolves back in June.
Matheus Cunha has become a key United first-team player for Amorim and the 26-year-old former Wolves ace has deeply impressed for the Red Devils this season.
Ben Foster has suggested that Fernandes is no longer alone as United’s sole world-beater, with Cunha falling into the same bracket as the Red Devils midfielder.
Who should be Manchester United captain while Bruno Fernandes is injured?
Who would be YOUR choice?
“The thing is, they have got some absolute world-beaters,” he said on the Fozcast podcast.
“Like you say, Cunha, when Cunha gets on the ball, you just think, before you could do anything here, mate, you are an athlete as well, by the way.
“He’s a specimen, isn’t he? It looks like he’s taller than what he was at Wolves, by the way. He’s got it all. It looks like he’s taller.
“And then when you’re mixing with a few others, like Bruno, for example, like you’ve got world-beaters and you’ve got winners as well.
“And I think they’re the ones that have been getting them through.”
Matheus Cunha has added a whole new dimension to Man Utd’s attacking threat under Ruben Amorim
Matheus Cunha has not put up the numbers so far that he did at Wolves last season, but there is no denying his importance to the United squad in the current campaign.
There is a night and day difference in United’s attacking output – and quality – when the Brazil international is playing compared with when he is absent from the team.
Cunha has netted three times and registered one assist in his 14 matches across all competitions for United since his big-money £62.5m transfer from Wolves.
Despite Fernandes dropping into the two-man midfield pivot, Cunha has more than stepped up as a creative force in the Red Devils’ attack thanks to his creative flair.
