Manchester United hammered Barnsley 7-0 on Tuesday night but Angel Gomes suffered a difficult evening with Lille in the Champions League.
This week has seen a real mixture of domestic and European competitions taking centre stage.
Manchester United were in EFL Cup action and hammered League One side Barnsley 7-0 at Old Trafford.
This was the biggest win of the Erik ten Hag era as United ran riot against the Tykes.
Champions League action has also kicked off this week though with the competition’s new format now up and running.
Whilst United had a fine night on Tuesday, Angel Gomes suffered a nightmare in his first Champions League appearance of the season.

Angel Gomes given Champions League red card
Lille kicked off their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night, travelling to Lisbon to take on Sporting.
This ended in a 2-0 defeat to Lille as star striker Viktor Gyokeres opened the scoring before Zeno Debast hammered home a stunning long-range drive.
Lille didn’t start the competition as they had hoped and that certainly goes for midfielder Angel Gomes too.
Former United talent Gomes has been attracting headlines of late having impressed in his first two caps for England over the international break.
Roy Keane praised Gomes and reports suggested that Newcastle United now want to sign him.
Gomes lined up for Lille against Sporting but the night turned into a disaster for him as he picked up a red card for two bookable offences.
The midfielder was given his marching orders in the first half as he failed to take his international form into Champions League action.
Ex-Manchester United talent Gomes apologises
Gomes will understandably feel that he let his team down, especially having picked up a yellow earlier in the half.
The midfielder spoke to RMC Sport after the game and admitted his frustration with the referee’s decision.
Gomes feels that he should have been let off with a warning as his second yellow wasn’t for a particularly dangerous challenge.
Gomes admitted that he has apologised to his teammates having made the task at hand a little more difficult for them.
The decision also means that Gomes will now be suspended when Lille face Real Madrid in October.
Gomes is gutted about that having really wanted to play against Jude Bellingham and co.
“I think, of course, being on a yellow card, I can be more cautious in the tackle against Gyokeres but I think the ref was very quick to give the red card,” said Gomes.
“I could have got at least a warning because there was no malintent in the tackle, but I understand that he gave the decision and it’s something that I’ll have to move on with. It obviously then makes the game difficult for us. I obviously apologised to the team but I think, with 11 players on the pitch, it’s a difficult game.”
“Of course, it’s not what you want. You want to play against the best teams in the world and, in my head, I wanted to play against Real Madrid at home with our supporters,” he added.
This was not how Gomes imagined this Champions League campaign going, but he will back himself to bounce back and impress again, once his suspension is over.
