Manchester United recorded their biggest win of the Erik ten Hag era with the Red Devils picking up a 7-0 victory over Barnsley.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United came into the game off the back of a 3-0 win over Southampton and the Red Devils may have finally kicked off their season with another thumping result.
United’s 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup was more about confidence than anything. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho both scored twice, as did Christian Eriksen, who is proving himself for United.
This was Erik ten Hag’s biggest victory as manager of Manchester United but the Dutchman has had bigger wins at Ajax.
Ajax 9-0 Cambuur
During Ten Hag’s time in Amsterdam, the Dutchman played a brand of football that the other Eredivisie sides simply could not deal with Ajax and Ten Hag’s style of play.
United right-back Noussair Mazraoui was among the scorers during Ajax’s 9-0 victory over Cambuur back in September of 2021 with David Neres the only player to score more than once with there being eight different scorers on that occasion.
This wouldn’t be the first time the Dutch side scored nine goals or more under Ten Hag’s tutelage.
Ajax 9-0 Excelsior Maassluis
The 9-0 win over Cambuur was not the only victory by that margin by Ten Hag’s Ajax with the Dutch giants recording another win by that same margin against Excelsior.
This time in the KNVB Cup, Ajax scored nine times against Excelsior but fell short of the 10-goal margin that Ten Hag would have no doubt wanted.
Danilo Pereira scored four goals whilst Mohamed Daramy scored two as the Dutch side ensured a safe and comfortable passage into the next round of the cup.
Ten Hag’s side have won by more than a 10-goal margin during his career in Holland and this came in the campaign before in 2020/21.
Ajax 13-0 VVV Venlo
Ten Hag’s side would achieve the double-digit victory that they were looking for as they put 13 goals past Dutch side VVV Venlo during the Covid-impacted campaign of 2020/21.
Lassina Traore and Klass Jan Huntelaar were among the goalscorers for Ajax in their club’s biggest victory since their 12-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem in 1972.
United’s biggest wins in history
United’s 7-0 win over Barnsley is by far the biggest victory under the Dutchman but the Red Devils’ win at Old Trafford is still behind his three biggest victories as manager of the Dutch giants.
As well as this, United’s Carabao Cup victory does not come into the conversation about the Red Devils’ biggest victories of all time.
United’s biggest-ever victory remains the 10-0 win over Anderlecht in 1956 and even more recently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils, back in 2021, beat Southampton 9-0, matched by a win over Ipswich in 1995.
As for Ten Hag’s United, this is the first time that the Red Devils have scored four or more goals under the Dutchman’s tutelage, with his previous biggest victories being 3-0 and 4-1..
