Manchester United have watched Angel Gomes kick on with Lille and England, but could now see him become a Premier League rival in 2025.
Kobbie Mainoo has become an absolute sensation at Manchester United over the last 12 months.
The midfielder has not only become a star at Old Trafford but also for England, starting the Euro 2024 final back in July.
Mainoo’s rise from the United academy to the first team has been incredible to witness and he certainly deserves all the praise and adulation coming his way.
That isn’t the story for many prospects coming through the United academy though and many have to leave to thrive elsewhere.
Teden Mengi has attracted interest since leaving United and the same goes for Luton Town teammate Tahith Chong.

Angel Gomes wanted by Premier League club
Whilst Mengi and Chong decided to stay in English football, Angel Gomes went down a different path.
Gomes decided to quit United and sign for Lille in 2020, backing himself to develop his career abroad.
After a loan spell at Boavista, Gomes has now kicked on and excelled in France, making his first England appearances in this international break.
Gomes impressed Roy Keane and his future is now under the microscope.
The Sun claim that Newcastle United are making Gomes their top target ahead of the January transfer window.
It’s suggested that Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund are also keen with all of these clubs tracking him on England duty.
Gomes is out of contract at Lille next summer and Premier League clubs are seemingly lining up to offer him a return to England.
Newcastle lost transfer chief Dan Ashworth to United over the summer but replacement Paul Mitchell may now pounce for Gomes.
Mitchell has seen plenty of Gomes in France having previously been the sporting director at Monaco.
Mitchell is also a boyhood United fan and will no doubt have been aware of his talent and potential in the Old Trafford setup.

Manchester United must look into Gomes deal
United’s midfield changes are not done yet.
Manuel Ugarte has arrived from Paris Saint-Germain whilst Scott McTominay and Hannibal Mejbri have been sold.
That is just phase one of United’s attempts to build a new set of midfield options around Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are likely to move on in 2025 and United need to identify replacements for both players.
Gomes should be on the radar to replace Eriksen as a creative midfield player who can dictate from deep or further forward.
Gomes still loves United and his contract status means Ineos can lure him back to Old Trafford in a bargain deal.
If Newcastle were to sign Gomes without a challenge from United, many fans would be a little disappointed as Gomes continues to take his game to another level.
