Manchester United are in the midst of yet another complete coaching overhaul, but one name who has left the club under Ineos is causing regrets.

When the Ruben Amorim era came to a brutal ending last Monday, it became evident that Manchester United were going to appoint a caretaker opposed to a permanent.

Ineos are now weighing up three possible caretakers, all of whom being club legends, and previously worked as a manager at Old Trafford in some capacity.

With United set to hold off hiring the next permanent manager until the end of this season, a caretaker will be tasked with securing European football.

Whoever arrives will take over from current United interim boss Darren Fletcher, who is set to be in the dugout against Brighton in the FA Cup.

Within these considerations, one name that keeps emerging is a coach who left Ineos with regret.

WHO is your pick from Carrick, Solskjaer or Van Nistelrooy?🤔

All three have impressed as players and coaches at Old Trafford, which do you want as caretaker?

Manchester United have regrets over letting Ruud van Nistelrooy leave the club

All three of United’s caretaker options currently being assessed will be well received, as Ineos consider which is best equipped to turn things around.

With Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer frontrunners right now, the inclusion of Ruud van Nistelrooy as a third possibility is interesting.

Now, speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Andy Mitten has revealed that Van Nistelrooy is one coach Ineos feel regret over letting go.

“Ruud Van Nistelrooy…there’s some regrets at United that they just let him go”, Mitten explained.

He then added, “He was very popular.”

The blame for this cannot be placed at Ineos’ feet though, with Amorim making the call. So Ineos’ regret is probably more that they let the Portuguese coach dictate.

Ruud van Nistelrooy record at Leicester should be only concern at Manchester United

In the summer of 2024, Van Nistelrooy returned to United as assistant to Erik ten Hag, ultimately taking charge when the Dutchman was sacked.

However, Amorim decided not to keep Van Nistelrooy and the former United striker then ended up heading to Leicester City as their manager in a relegation dogfight.

He didn’t manage to keep the Foxes up, with a nine game losing streak between February and April proving fatal.

Van Nistelrooy won five in 27, losing 19, which is a record that will concern Ineos and raise questions around his ability to come in and steady the United ship which is currently taking on a lot of water.

Maybe Van Nistelrooy would be a smart hire as an assistant to Solskjaer for example, but as a manager, its tough to see Ineos going for the Dutchman.
