Darren Fletcher took over from Ruben Amorim as interim Manchester United head coach to face Burnley, but there was less certainty over the Brighton game.

The board at Manchester United decided to sack Ruben Amorim on Monday, prompting a scramble to find a man to see out this season in charge.

Darren Fletcher was in the dugout vs Burnley, coaching an impressive performance, although the 2-2 scoreline didn’t do United justice.

Looking forward, Fletcher is unlikely to become the caretaker manager until May.

United are instead considering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick to return to the club, although it might even be both.

There is the feeling that an announcement is imminent, and wonder over whether the new caretaker manager would arrive in time to face Brighton.

Now, Fletcher has given a definitive answer.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw against Burnley, Fletcher was expectedly asked about who would be in the dugout against Brighton, and he gave a straight-up answer.

“I’ve spoken to the board, and I’ll be in charge for the Brighton game [in the FA Cup], and then we’ll take it from there. It’s one game at a time.”

This indicates Ineos were relatively pleased with the performance against Burnley, not feeling an urgent need to rush into the decision with Solskjaer and Carrick being evaluated.

Fletcher will get to manage United at Old Trafford, before we expect the caretaker to be in place next week to prepare for Manchester City.

What should Darren Fletcher change for the next game, and what should he keep the same?

Darren Fletcher coached a win for Manchester United vs Burnley

There is no avoiding that United’s draw with Burnley was frustrating; however, the performance left so much to be impressed with and excited by.

Fletcher watched his United side accumulate more than eight times the expected goal tally as Burnley, with 30 shots to seven, and a display that deserved three points.

However, there was enough to show Fletcher is capable hands for these few games, with progression in the FA Cup important and trusting the Scottish coach is a big statement.

Brighton will be a bigger test than Burnley, but with more space, against an attack-minded team, Fletcher might implement his United DNA, quick counter-attacking style.
