Manchester United have officially entered the 2026/27 season as far as football contracts are concerned.

The structure of football contracts means that players usually sign until June 30. Now that we have ticked into July, there are seven players who have officially entered the final year of their deal.

It also means that Casemiro’s exit is official, with his deal expiring at the end of June. Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia’s contracts have also officially ended.

United have entered the 2026/27 financial year, which could have an impact on transfer business after a fairly quiet June.

Seven Manchester United players with expiring contracts

As things stand, there will be seven players out of contract and becoming free agents this time next year unless they sign a new deal at the club.

Transfer rules state that players with expiring contracts are also free to begin negotiations and sign a pre-contract with overseas clubs in January, six months before their deals run out.

Here are the seven players who are now in their final year of contract:

Harry Maguire signed a contract extension in April which explains why he is now entering his final 12 months. United do have an option to extend until 2028.

There are also options to extend the deals of Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Altay Bayindir and Toby Collyer by 12 months.

Deciding the Man United players who deserve new contracts

It goes without saying that Fernandes deserves a new deal as United’s captain and as a Premier League record-breaker last season.

Fernandes signed his last deal in 2024, and Ineos will be keen to offer him a new deal. It seems, though, that the Portuguese playmaker is waiting to see the ambition in the transfer market this summer before making his decision.

Martinez is another player who deserves to extend his stay at Old Trafford. A World Cup winner who adds experience, and his 2026 World Cup campaign proves he is still among the elite defenders on a global stage.

The likes of Collyer and Bayindir could be sold, while decisions on Maguire and Heaton depend on balancing their age and dressing room leadership.

Shaw is entering his final year and is currently United’s longest-serving player. Interestingly, there is no option to extend his deal, so Ineos must make a decision on his future this season.
