Alejandro Garnacho is the latest former Manchester United player to have moved to Villa Park, following in the same footsteps of England forward Marcus Rashford.
Marcus Rashford spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign out on loan at Villa Park after he had fallen out of the Man Utd starting XI under Ruben Amorim.
The 28-year-old Three Lions international did not ‘light up the world’ during his spell at Villa, but it acted as a springboard to put his career back on track at club level.
Rashford climbed back into the England national team under Thomas Tuchel during his time at Villa and the Man Utd talent started to rediscover his best form.
Villa did not trigger the £40m buy clause for the United star in 2025, but Rashford later signed for Barcelona and impressed during his loan spell at the Camp Nou.

Garnacho’s trajectory is now being closely compared with that of Jadon Sancho, who had been loaned out to both Chelsea and Aston Villa during his time at Man Utd.
Jadon Sancho failed to convince the Blues to sign him permanently last summer and Chelsea paid a £5m penalty clause to U-turn on keeping him for the long term.
Just like Marcus Rashford before him, Sancho followed in his former England teammate’s footsteps by making the move to Aston Villa in 2025.
However, the 26-year-old former Borussia Dortmund winger only netted once and registered three assists in his 39 matches for Villa during his loan spell.
Sancho is now a free agent after his contract expired at Old Trafford in June and the former Three Lions star is now on the hunt for a club that would want him.
Garnacho could quickly find himself on the slippery slope of Sancho’s career rather than a revival like Rashford did if his Villa spell falls well short of expectations.
