Alejandro Garnacho is aiming to replicate the best form he showed at Manchester United following a move to Aston Villa.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Alejandro Garnacho had signed for Aston Villa on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
The former Manchester United academy graduate completed his medical in Birmingham after an agreement was reached for a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.
United pocketed £40m from Garnacho’s sale to Chelsea last year. With a 10% sell-on clause included in the deal, the Reds could be in line for further profit on the Argentina international.

What is your message to Alejandro Garnacho after he was sold by Chelsea to Aston Villa?
Alejandro Garnacho reflects on his best days at Man Utd after Aston Villa move
It says a lot about Garnacho’s time at Chelsea that there was never one moment when anyone at United was thinking they had made a mistake by letting him move to a direct rival.
After forcing his way into United’s first team in 2022, Garnacho became a fans’ favourite. It helped that he was a product of the academy, but patience eventually wore thin after multiple behavioural episodes.
Erik ten Hag showed plenty of patience with Garnacho, but it was a different story under Ruben Amorim, who threw the young forward under the bus after losing the 2024 Europa League final against Tottenham.
Overall, Garnacho made 144 appearances for United, scoring 26 goals and registering 22 assists. He had just 12 goal contributions in 43 matches at Chelsea.
In his first interview with VillaTV, Garnacho reflected on his time at Old Trafford with an admission about recapturing his best form in claret and blue.
“I was looking for a club to get confidence at and to try to be the player I was in my first years at Manchester United,” Garnacho said.
“I spoke with the manager, and I think he will give me the confidence to be here and to help the team.”
Garnacho’s message suggests he knows that he would benefit from having a head coach who is willing to put their arm around him.
Unless he succeeds at Villa Park and proves himself, Garnacho may find that he is running out of excuses.
The last thing Villa want is another Jadon Sancho.
