Antonio Conte is being talked about as the next potential Manchester United manager.

It is not a foregone conclusion. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be in charge for Saturday’s trip to face Tottenham.

United’s hierarchy are reportedly not 100 per cent convinced about Conte, who has an abrasive personality and does not suffer fools gladly.

But what about Conte’s record against United from his time at Chelsea? We took a look as the links with Old Trafford continue to swirl…

What is Conte’s record against Manchester United?

As per Transfermarkt, Conte faced United six times during the two seasons he was at Chelsea.

He won four of those and lost twice. The Italian’s successes included a 4-0 drubbing of Jose Mourinho’s side at Stamford Bridge in October 2016 and a 1-0 FA Cup final win in May 2018.

Conte’s defeats both came at Old Trafford; 2-0 in April 2017 and 2-1 in February 2018.

Every time he faced United, Conte used a three-man defensive system and most often deployed a 3-4-2-1 formation.

How does his record compare?

The Daily Star report that Mauricio Pochettino remains United’s first choice to replace Solskjaer if a change is made.

So how does his record against United compare with Conte’s?

Using Transfermarkt’s data again, Pochettino faced United 14 times with Tottenham and Southampton.

He won just four of those meetings, so has a far worse win percentage than Conte.

That said, he did win on his most recent visit to Old Trafford, a 3-0 triumph in August 2018, while Mourinho was still in charge.

The only time Solskjaer took on Pochettino, he won 1-0 at Wembley thanks to a Marcus Rashford goal. Spurs battered United that day though, and were indebted to David de Gea’s heroics for getting the win.
