Manchester United blew past expectations as they went into hostile territory and came away with a commanding 3-0 victory that sets them up nicely.

Man Utd’s 3-0 win vs Athletic has one foot of theirs in the final, held in the same stadium this massacre took place in, courtesy of some clinical finishing and Athletic losing their heads.

Naturally, in a win like this, the narrative is full of winners and this was no different, with everyone from Harry Maguire to Casemiro gaining plenty of plaudits.

Ruben Amorim said that one player who flew under the radar vs Athletic is now ‘dead’, so hard did he work, almost certainly ruling him out vs Brentford now.

Ruben Amorim names ‘dead’ Man Utd ace

A trip to Athletic was always going to be brutal and Man Utd fans were managing their expectations in the lead-up to the game because the Basque side are dominant at home.

This game also started in the same vein and United had Andre Onana and some poor finishing to thank for remaining in the tie after the first 20 minutes.

Nico Williams, in particular, was finding plenty of joy on his side against Victor Lindelof who was caught on the ball multiple times.

However, when Williams was subbed off in the second half, he hadn’t registered any goal contributions and his influence had waned with time.

That is mostly down to Noussair Mazraoui, who did a lockdown job on Athletic’s most important player despite playing in a position he’s not entirely suited to.

Amorim said that the wing-back role had sucked the life out of him and he was ‘dead’ after the game.

He said: “Of course we are have an advantage. We have our fans, but again this could change. Anything can happen in one game.

“We need to be really careful with our players against Brentford. Noussair Mazraoui is dead, Patrick Dorgu is tired – we have to manage the players.”

Noussair Mazraoui paves way for Jaydan Kamason

Amorim had already hinted that changes en masse are on their way for the Brentford game and now that United have one foot in the final, expect that to come to fruition.

By saying Mazraoui is ‘dead’, Amorim has already laid out the expectations and that spells good news for a number of academy products.

Full-back Jaydan Kamason is probably the happiest right now because Dorgu is ‘tired’, Mazraoui is ‘dead’ and Luke Shaw’s minutes need to be managed.

With Diogo Dalot’s injury added to the mix, it is almost a certainty that Kamason will get his Man Utd debut that his performances have merited this season.

Kamason’s flying full-back skills have caught Amorim’s eye and he’s made the matchday squad a few times now. Circumstances mean he’s set for his first-team debut now.
