Manchester United will go to Old Trafford with a healthy lead in hand after the refereeing gods finally smiled upon them in a 0-3 win.

Man Utd tried to settle early in the face of Athletic’s intense press and looked uncomfortable before Harry Maguire turned on his inner winger to cross, which was eventually headed in by Casemiro for the lead.

Athletic lost their heads soon after as Dani Vivian was sent off for his challenge on Rasmus Hojlund in dubious circumstances.

Bruno Fernandes doubled the lead from the spot then added his second soon after with a smart finish to send Man Utd fans into dreamland at half-time.

United continued to dictate proceedings and Athletic continued to feel wronged in the second half which saw multiple chances but no goals as United saw off a rare no-fuss 3-0 win.
