Manchester United conclude this summer’s pre-season tour with an outing against Liverpool on Sunday morning, follow here for all the latest.
Less than one week out from a trip to Wembley against Manchester City in the Community Shield, Erik ten Hag led his side out to face Liverpool in South Carolina.
It was the last of three United States-based tour games and wraps up the 2024 pre-season and it ended in a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Manchester United had already lost 2-1 to Arsenal and then beat Real Betis 3-2, but this game will have been the most disappointing – despite the strong performance from United.
Follow along below for all the latest build-up, game updates, team news and match scores which we will update throughout the night and into the early hours of Sunday.
Full-time Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool
It’s all over both for the game and also for United’s tour of the USA and we conclude with a 3-0 defeat. The scoreline flattered Liverpool with some dubious offside decisions but ultimately it was Erik ten hag’s side’s poor conversion of chances which cost them the game.
It is only pre-season, but still plenty to take from the defeat. Stay tuned for all the reactions.
[Link]Another injury blow for United
The last thing Erik ten Hag would have wanted, but Will Fish is now being stretchered off the pitch with a protective boot on his ankle. Concerning from United’s point-of-view and for Fish who looks distraught.
[Link]Ethan Wheatley comes very close
Wheatley’s search for a goal continues as the Liverpool goalkeeper denies him.

Tsimikas scores a third for Liverpool, although with VAR it probably would have been ruled out for offside.
[Link]Nice play from Sancho
Sancho goes on a nice dribble with excellent footwork but he runs out of room before getting a shot off. He’s looked sharp today!
[Link]McTominay has to score there!
From the penalty spot, McTominay does really well to get himself a clear sight of goal, but he is denied. Finishing has to improve for United!
[Link]Three substitutions at half-time
On: Scott McTominay, Will Fish and Rhys Bennett
Off: Marcus Rashford, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof
[Link]Half-time thoughts
Manchester United may trail at half-time but in the dressing room, there will be nothing but praise from Erik ten Hag for his team. The Red Devils were by far the better team, with numerous chances missed but the important thing is they are being created.
The press has been effective and defensively United have also looked strong with the two goals being against the run of play.
We don’t imagine there will be many half-time substitutes.
[Link]Toby Collyer comes close
Harry Amass almost grabs another assist with Toby Collyer forcing a good save out of the Liverpool goalkeeper.
[Link]2-0 Liverpool
Liverpool doubles their advantage through Curtis Jones. United will be ruing missed chances and have been the better team.
[Link]United close again
United continue to pile on the pressure as Marcus Rashford has two back-to-back chances with both narrowly avoiding the back of the net. Some really good football is being played.
[Link]Jadon Sancho chance
United let another chance go amiss, with Amad taking a quick throw-in to find Mount down the right wing. Mount then sent a cross into the box where Jadon Sancho had a glancing header which he didn’t get enough on to direct towards goal.
[Link]Marcus Rashford looks sharp
After an excellent piece of defensive work from Amass, he slips the ball to Rashford who spins Quansah before running at the defence. The move ended with Wan-Bissaka sending a cross in which didn’t look like it had an intended target.
[Link]Great football from United
They may be behind, but it remains all United with some excellent play which leads to Casemiro playing Mount in before he squandered the chance of scoring.
[Link]1-0 Liverpool
Fabio Carvalho opens the scoring against the run of play, with the help of a deflection.
[Link]Mason Mount chance
The first real chance of the game falls to United and Mason Mount. Toby Collyer intercepted a poor Liverpool pass before slipping Mount in only for his shot to be denied. It remains 0-0.
