Manchester United bowed out of the Carabao Cup after suffering defeat to Tottenham in North London.
Manchester United were unable to complete another late comeback and suffered a 4-3 defeat to Spurs on Thursday evening.
Ruben Amorim made five changes to the Manchester United lineup that beat Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, including a change of goalkeeper.
Andre Onana has been superb for United this season, but he was handed a rare rest which allowed Altay Bayindir to start between the sticks.
The 26-year-old’s only other appearances this season also came in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley and Leicester City.
It was a big opportunity for Bayindir to impress, but the Turkey international instead made two costly mistakes against Spurs.

Altay Bayindir criticised for mistake vs Tottenham
Spurs opened the scoring on Thursday evening following a set-piece routine that eventually dropped to Pedro Porro on the edge of the box.
Rasmus Hojlund was slow to close him down but Bayindir struggled to deal with the strike, which was parried right into Solanke’s path.
Via Sky Sports, Gary Neville criticised Bayindir’s goalkeeping, suggesting he handed Spurs a “gift”.
“The goalkeeper has to push it wide, not into the danger zone, although you can argue the Man Utd defenders are sleeping, they could have helped him out,” Neville said.
“Solanke finishes it really well, he does what all good strikers do but sniffing where the ball may end up, but it is a gift.”
Bayindir was in the spotlight again late on when Son Heung-Min scored directly from a corner. United’s shot-stopper complained that he was impeded but the goal stood.
Man United have Altay Bayindir replacement lined up
Earlier this month, Bayindir complained about his game time at United and hinted that he may pursue a move elsewhere.
Ultimately, Bayindir is expected to leave in 2025 in pursuit of more game time, and he certainly didn’t help his chances of staying with his performance against Spurs. He also didn’t exactly wow any potential suitors.
There is no doubt that Onana is United’s first-choice goalkeeper, but the Red Devils have identified another shot-stopper who could replace Bayindir as number two.
United have been linked with John Victor, who currently plays in Brazil for Botafogo – the side that former Red Alex Telles also represents.
Victor was voted as the best player in Brazil and reportedly has a price tag of £20m. If Bayindir does leave in January or the summer, he could be a top target.
