Man United v Southampton team news

Ralf Rangnick has already confirmed that three players will miss this game – Eric Bailly, Fred and Nemanja Matic.

Bailly is still struggling with the injury he suffered at the Africa Cup of Nations, Fred is still testing positive for Covid, while Matic has a shin problem.

Alex Telles has returned to training and could feature here, while Mason Greenwood will obviously not play.

Our prediction: United v Southampton

Southampton not only recently beat Spurs but also held Manchester City, ending their winning run, so they will be tricky opponents.

They will provide a test of Rangnick’s pressing system, although United have had an extra 24 hours to prepare for the game.

James Ward-Prowse’s delivery has caused United problem in the past but Rangnick was keen to point out at his pre-match press conference that the set-piece defensive record has improved under him.

If United make the same amount of chances they have in recent games – and take them this time – they should win here.

Our prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Southampton
