Patrick Dorgu made his Manchester United bow on Friday night in the FA Cup.
It was far from the debut Patrick Dorgu would have been dreaming of, with Manchester United’s first-half performance atrocious and ending with the home side losing 1-0.
Despite this, Dorgu was one of United’s best players in the opening 45 minutes with 47 touches of the ball, which made his withdrawal all the more confusing.
United went on to beat Leicester 2-1, with Joshua Zirkzee’s equaliser setting the scene for Harry Maguire to score the winner.

Ruben Amorim’s side picked up the win to keep dreams of back-to-back FA Cup trophies alive. After the game, Danish media reacted to the display of 20-year-old Denmark international, Dorgu.

Patrick Dorgu praised by Danish media
After joining Manchester United for £25m last weekend, Dorgu’s debut had been long awaited by fans. In Denmark, it was also a big deal with the media in the country reacting to his 45-minute performance.
Sport TV2 reviewed the United No.13, claiming he was United’s best player in the first half.
“The newly arrived Dane got 45 minutes on the pitch, where he was United’s best player. Rather bizarrely, he was still picked out during the break.
“Dorgu delivered an optimistic start and was involved in several good combinations.”
Berlingske also praised Dorgu for his maiden Old Trafford outing.
“Seen in isolation, it was a quite uplifting first half as a right wing-back for 20-year-old Dorgu.
“He showed both courage and initiative in a relatively unfamiliar position, and midway through the half he also had United’s only real finish before the break when he kicked the ball over the goal with his right foot.”
Danish outlet, Ekstrabladet, also commented although were not so loose with their praise, simply defining Dorgu’s performance as ‘fine’.
Peter Schmeichel says Dorgu substitution was planned by Manchester United
Dorgu’s early exit sparked debate over the reasoning, as it is hard for anyone to believe Amorim hooked him off for an encouraging performance.
Peter Schmeichel appears to have shed light on this while speaking with ViaPlay during their coverage of the match.
He explained that it was always the plan that Dorgu should only play one half, which would make a lot of sense – with Amorim revealing to the press that Dorgu has only trained three times with the team before the game.
“He has like three trainings so it was really hard for him.”
So when put like this, and that United were chasing a win, perhaps it is wise to slowly introduce the 20-year-old as opposed to dropping him into hot water.
