Confirmed Manchester United line-up v Everton
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his starting eleven for Manchester United’s Premier League meeting with Everton.
The big news is Cristiano Ronaldo has been left on the bench with Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial both starting.
This is how Manchester United line-up for the game:
Starting XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Telles, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Greenwood, Martial, Cavani
Substitutes: Henderson, Bailly, Telles, Van de Beek, Lingard, Matic, Sancho, Pogba, Ronaldo
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Here is how the team compares to our predicted XI for the game. It’s fair to say we didn’t see Ronaldo being benched or Martial getting a first league start of the campaign.
This is another important game for United, representing the opportunity to go to the top of the Premier League before Liverpool meet Manchester City tomorrow.
That means dropping Ronaldo is a gamble. Cavani deserves a start, but the inclusion of Martial on the left wing is a risk which will bring huge scrutiny if it backfires.
Paul Pogba has also been left on the bench as Solskjaer shakes things up to keep his side fresh.
Bruno Fernandes will again captain the side in the absence of Harry Maguire, who has been left out of the England squad.
Luke Shaw was named in Gareth Southgate’s plans and took part in full training yesterday, so it is not a total surprise that he starts.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka returns at right-back, after his Champions League suspension, which saw Diogo Dalot come into the side.
Once again, Donny van de Beek has not been selected to start despite more talk this week about his role in the squad after he was not brought off the bench in midweek against Villarreal.
