At the end of July, ESPN reported Manchester United were eyeing Kingsley Coman as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.
At that stage the Sancho deal appeared likely. Since then the chances of the club pulling it off are decreasing with every passing day.
Coman has been a in and out of the Bayern Munich side this season, starting 17 of the club’s 34 Bundesliga games.
On Sunday night he was selected to start the Champions League final, and he seized his chance, netting the winner.

Even before his 58th minute goal in Lisbon, Coman was one of the best players on the pitch and justified his selection.
Before he was subsequently substituted for Joshua Kimmich, Coman did his part as Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain.
Coman had three shots at goal, two successful dribbles, and created one chance. Scoring against the team he made his debut for, this was a memorable performance.
So where does this leave United?
Whichever way you look at it, Manchester United’s chances of signing Kingsley Coman look a lot tougher after the Champions League final.
ESPN reported United wanted Coman on a loan deal. It claimed Bayern would prefer a permanent sale, if at all.
A loan deal is very unlikely after his final heroics. You just do not send a Champions League final decider out on loan the season after. Bayern are a sensibly run club.
Their bargaining power just got a lot stronger, and if United want to sign him, Coman will not be cheap.
It is also worth noting that Coman played for Bayern on the left wing, rather than the right, the position which United are looking for Sancho to star in.
Fan reaction
As with any player making an impact in a big game, Coman enhanced his reputation.
United fans who were watching were left impressed, and while a deal will be tough to do, and may not even be top priority, there is a bit more appetite for it now…
