Cristiano Ronaldo will be training on his own over the next few days, The Athletic report.
Ronaldo has been axed from the first team set up this weekend, United have confirmed, after he walked down the tunnel before the final whistle against Tottenham.
Cristiano Ronaldo responded with a message on Instagram. He says he intends to rectify the situation. If you look hard enough, there might even be an apology in there somewhere.
Manchester United players ‘like’ Ronaldo statement
Cristiano Ronaldo has 450 million followers on Instagram, who see him at his best – and now reacting to one of the worst moments in his career, when his lack of professionalism has let down the Manchester United supporters who have always backed him so loyally.
One key question is how Manchester United’s teammates will respond to Ronaldo temporarily being ostracised from the group.
A look at the responses to his Instagram post suggest United’s players will welcome him back.
Diogo Dalot, Alejandro Garnacho, Lisandro Martinez, Facundo Pellistri were the current Manchester United players to ‘like’ his statement on Instagram.
On loan defender Eric Bailly did also, along with former teammates Javier Hernandez and Federico Macheda.
Young players Shola Shoretire, Joe Hugill and Louis Jackson were also among those to do so – and notably, so did NFL star Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
Ronaldo now has to redeem himself by impressing the United staff behind the scenes, but he won’t travel with the squad for the Chelsea game this weekend.
He only has himself to blame for this, and if he is lucky, then he may get game time against Sheriff Tiraspol at Old Trafford next week. Many fans would rather see the youngsters given a chance instead.
