Brady was seen in the crowd voicing ‘wow’ after Ronaldo scored United’s third in the 3-2 win to complete his hat-trick.

Brady and Ronaldo met on the pitch after the game, and he also posed for pictures with several of United’s other players too, who were delighted to meet more sporting royalty, a seven-time Superbowl winner.

Ronaldo posted on social media expressing his pleasure at meeting Brady. It was a real feelgood story which topped off a momentous and spectacular win for United, with the quarterback timing his visit as immaculately as one of his perfectly thrown passes.

One sour note

There was one sour note on Brady’s visit, as he publicly thanked the Glazers for hosting him at Old Trafford.

Brady played two years under the Glazer ownership at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before retiring earlier this year aged 44.

The Glazers themselves rarely every attend Old Trafford, as deeply unpopular figures among the fanbase.

Perhaps it is unfair to expect Brady to understand the dislike the United fanbase has for the Glazers, or more aptly, for him to care.

But anytime the Glazers’ ownership of United is promoted in a positive sense, it’s a sickener for supporters to see their names connected with the club.

Unfortunately it does not seem the unwanted owners are going anywhere for now, but the number of interested buyers in Chelsea has recently highlighted the potential interest if the club was put up for sale. We can only hope.

There was one more message from Tom Brady late on Sunday. He announced he is un-retiring and returning to the NFL.

Cristiano Ronaldo can claim the assist on this one.

Watching a true great roll back the years and play like he is at his peak has inspired Brady to give it one more crack and try and win another Superbowl.
