Erik ten Hag has included two exciting Manchester United youngsters in his squad to face Fenerbahce.

Manchester United return to action on Thursday evening when they face Turkish side Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

The Red Devils are yet to win in the Europa League this season after back-to-back draws with FC Twente and Porto. United sit 21st in the Europa League table but must finish inside the top eight to pass straight through to the knockout stages.

Ten Hag will have a weakened squad for the midweek trip to Turkey with Jonny Evans missing training on Wednesday. Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount will also miss the match.

However, it has provided the United manager an opportunity to include some of the club’s exciting young talents in the matchday squad.

Academy trio included in Man United squad vs Fenerbahce

Manchester United confirmed the 20-man squad that will travel to face Fenerbahce this week, and it includes three promising academy stars.

18-year-old striker Ethan Wheatley has been included in the travelling squad and joins Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as options to lead the line.

Wheatley wowed teammates in training on Wednesday after footage showed him nutmegging Marcus Rashford during a drill.

Wheatley starred in United’s pre-season tour this summer but he is yet to make a first-team appearance this season. He made three senior appearances last season when he became United’s 250th academy graduate – he will hope for a fourth appearance against Fenerbahce.

Wheatley is joined in the travelling squad by academy teammates Harry Amass and Habeeb Ogunneye.

Harry Amass and Habeen Ogunneye target Man United debut

Unlike Wheatley, Amass and Ogunneye are yet to make their senior debut for United and will hope to do so on Thursday evening.

Amass is considered a “special” talent at Carrington has been on the brink of the first team this season after catching attention in the academy.

The promising 17-year-old could provide a solution at left-back with Malacia and Shaw still on the sidelines.

As for Ogunneye, the 18-year-old right-back was named on the bench regularly towards the end of last season but is yet to make his debut.

Ogunneye trained with Ratcliffe-owned Lausanne earlier this week after United struck a deal with the sister club to send three academy players over to train.
