Manchester United academy talent Shea Lacey is finally getting the run of injury-free games he has long needed, and he’s caught the eye.
Despite only being 18, Shea Lacey has been a name Manchester United fans have been excited about seeing at first-team level for years.
From a young age, Lacey earned comparisons to Wayne Rooney and other elite footballers, with his ability so clearly primed to be at the pinnacle of the sport.
However, since the winter of 2023, Lacey’s footballing career has been almost at a standstill due to injuries that he couldn’t escape.
Lacey missed four months in the middle of the 2023/24 season, which was the first of a series of unfortunate injuries that saw him return on fire only to be out again after a few games.
Now, Lacey has got the news that he’s been waiting for.

Shea Lacey returns to the England set-up after a two-year absence
Lacey has been on the cusp of United’s senior team since 2024, with staff believing him ready to step up, only for injuries to consistently deny him.
Over the summer of 2025, Lacey impressed during pre-season training only to miss out on tour due to what was seen as an injury.
However, this week, Lacey played his first full 90 minutes since October 2023, and now he has made a deserved return to the England youth national team set-up.
Two years ago this month, Lacey was on fire for England’s U17 side and his return sees him called into the England U20 team, alongside fellow United players Elyh Harrison, Ayden Heaven and Ethan Wheatley.
This is the latest step for Lacey on his road to finally claim his spot as one of the most talented youngsters in world football, as his injury issues are now looking like they were growing pains.
Shea Lacey is on the cusp of Manchester United’s first-team
Lacey’s 2025/26 could be so simple. If he stays fit, then he will absolutely be a first-team player over the coming months; he is that good.
Last season, Lacey was impressive on United’s post-season tour of Asia, looking really sharp in his cameo appearances.
As a result of this, Lacey earned a new squad number, indicating Amorim’s faith in him. Now, Lacey’s U21 standout performances have thrust him right back into the spotlight at United.
United’s first-team players are excited about Lacey, and this must mean the coaches are too.
Whether it is Amorim or another coach over the next few months, expect Lacey to make his debut.
