The Manchester United academy is the best it has been in years and Ineos has only added to the talent the club possesses.

Upon the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, it was crystal clear that Manchester United had the country’s best academy right now.

Adam Lawrence coached the U18s to a treble triumph in dominant fashion and these talents are now beginning to impress at U21 level.

During this campaign of brilliance, United sources suggested the best was yet to come, with the next group of players moving into the U18s being more exciting.

The generation includes the Wayne Rooney-like Amir Ibragimov, defensive prodigy Godwill Kukonki and also the exciting Bendito Mantato to name a few.

However, it is the Ineos recruits from this summer who have now been praised.

Chido Obi-Martin and James Overy named among the best in the world

Ineos went on an academy recruitment drive over the summer, adding several names with Samuel Lusale from Crystal Palace, James Overy from Perth and then finally the crown jewel which was Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal.

Now, the Guardian has named two of United’s summer academy additions in the list of the best young players who were born in 2007.

In the top 60, both Overy and Obi-Martin are named, justifying United’s move for both as they are a pair of diamonds which Adam Lawrence could very well turn into ready-made stars for Erik ten Hag.

United target Chris Rigg is also on the list, with the Red Devils keen to add yet another superb youngster.

Overy is a true modern-day right-back as he loves the attacking side of the game – while possessing the technical qualities required to be a forward-thinking right-back in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Obi-Martin is a goal machine, as United fans have already witnessed in training clips. The young Dane has every quality required to be a top striker; he is tall, quick, strong and absolutely lethal in front of goal.

For both a new beginning has arrived, but when will they get out on the pitch and make a debut?

When will Chido Obi and Overy make their Manchester United debuts?

With these exciting talents in the books at United, now we are all eagerly anticipating seeing how they will fit in for the academy.

Part of this will be watching the debuts, of which both Obi-Martin and Overy are awaiting.

Neither has played club football in a while – with Obi-Martin in action for Denmark since his last Arsenal game and we expect he will quickly fire himself up the goalscoring charts at U18 level.

That being said, both have now had a couple of weeks to get themselves ready for action and so we are inclined to believe that a debut is not far away.

This Saturday the U18s take on Sunderland, which may come too soon – but if not then maybe the UEFA Youth League is a target or if not then a week on Saturday against Nottingham.
