Manchester United have just made another addition to the academy, with Australian 17-year-old James Overy.

At long last, Manchester United have managed to get the deal for the former Perth Glory right-back James Overy over the line with images of him signing his contract now shared.

17-year-old Overy was first linked with bolstering the youth ranks in June, and since then Premier League ratification has been eagerly anticipated.

Then earlier this month, Overy got his Premier League approval for the move – but since then we have been waiting for the Australian wonderkid and also Samuel Lusale who has also joined from Crystal Palace.

Now the talented defender has been pictured signing his contract and he has sent a message upon doing so.

James Overy announces Manchester United arrival

Overy joins an already talented group within Carrington, as he is likely to begin with the treble-winning U18s, flying down the right side with the excellent Bendito Mantato ahead of him.

Taking to Instagram, Overy wrote: “Happy to sign for my boyhood club @manchesterunited”, then he added a heart before writing: “excited for the future!”

Much to our delight, Overy has plenty of his new United teammates commenting on his post – showing he won’t need bedding in time at the club.

Shea Lacey led the responses, writing: “My brother”, followed by a heart emoji.

Tyler Fletcher then added: “What a guy”, with a heart emoji.

Amir Ibragimov also commented: “My brother”, with a shark and a heart emoji.

For Gabriele Biancheri there was a more comedic response, writing: “Shark in the water”, a play on the youngster being Australian.

Fellow new boy Lusale also responded, saying: “My boyy” followed by a heart.

Finally, Jack Fletcher commented: “Class mate”, with clapping emojis after.

What to expect from Overy

In Overy, United are getting a young player who is already accustomed to first-team football as he had been playing for Newton Abbot Spurs since moving to England and waiting for a big move.

However, the best example of his talent is from July 2023 when he impressed for Perth in a first-team friendly against West Ham United.

Overy has been compared with Pedro Porro and also Cafu for his attacking quality from a full-back position – something which is desired at most clubs in today’s game.

Together with Harry Amass, United will be hoping that the full-back positions’ future is secured and chances are at least one will live up to potential.

No doubt an exciting addition we hope to see in action soon.
