The 2024 summer transfer window saw Manchester United swoop for several exciting youngsters, but one of the most exciting is surely Sekou Kone.

One thing which will have new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim excited will surely be how much talent is in the academy right now.

39-year-old Amorim is known for his willingness to promote youth, and at Carrington, he will find some absolutely phenomenal talents just waiting to be given a chance.

Despite having a treble-winning U18 side last year, Ineos have not hesitated to add to the talent-full group – with Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal being the marquee.

Obi-Martin scored a hattrick on his first start for United, however for 18-year-old summer recruit Sekou Kone – the start has been slower to life in Manchester.

How Sekou Kone is settling in at Manchester United

When the club announced the signing of Kone on deadline day, nobody thought he would be rivalling Kobbie Mainoo and others for minutes – with the move seeing a drastic change in his life.

But as we are now in November and he is still yet to feature for the U21s, United in Focus has spoken with journalist Graeme Bailey to understand how the midfielder is faring.

“The training is the main thing with him, settling in England, it’s important for him to settle into life”, it was explained.

“From my understanding they were never thinking of the first team for him this season, if it got to that point it would be a massive bonus.

“But I have heard that he has settled well and that has been the main focus, whether he plays two or 20 youth games, I don’t think that’s an issue, they want him to settle in.”

Following this, Graeme added that Kone can expect Manchester United game-time – at some level – in the new year.

“They’ll get stuck in, in the new year with him in terms of game time. But from what I’m told they are very happy with how he has settled.”

Does Sekou Kone fit into Ruben Amorim’s tactics

While he has yet to play a minute at any level, Kone was signed with the first team in mind.

It was reported that Kone had been impressing Erik ten Hag, which even prompted the Malian to be brought into first-team football.

As a midfielder, Kone has been likened to a mix between Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante – something which bodes excellent news for Amoirm if he lives up to even half that billing.

Such a dynamic midfielder will obviously have a role within Amorim’s team and we would assume that with a rebuild in the position needed, Kone will be a fixture of the squad in years to come.

Kone can defend, pass and boasts an excellent footballing brain which stands him well if it can all come together. Amorim could be the perfect coach to extract that for him in the near future.

However, first, it is important he settles.
