There have been all kinds of whispers about this one for a while. Now Ethan Ennis can confirm he is a Manchester United player.

The 16-year-old attacking prospect turned down the chance to renew his deal with Liverpool, The Echo reported, despite their best efforts.

Ennis last night posted on Instagram with a picture of him at Old Trafford, confirming he has signed with United.

The picture shows Ennis holding last season’s shirt, showing that this deal has been in the pipeline for a little while.

Ennis has been weighing up his options. He posted an Instagram story fron Chelsea’s training ground in June, which indicated they may have a lead on him. Fortunately he viewed Manchester United as a better option.

A promising player to have high hopes for

Ennis is the first official recruit for Manchester United’s academy this summer. Brexit has slowed down the usual influx from overseas, and last year there were extra deals done to beat the deadline.

More are likely to follow Ennis in. But he is a very good start.

Ennis, 16, will go into Manchester United’s new look under-18s side.

Last season he played seven games for Liverpool’s under-18s, scoring twice and providing one assist, and also netted a hat-trick in his one FA Youth Cup appearance.

Ennis can play as an attacking midfielder or a striker and it will be fascinating to see what United have planned for him this coming season.
