Manchester United’s first team might have a lot of questions to answer right now but their academy keeps thriving and touching new heights.

After a memorable treble last season with an exciting batch, the academy got another booster dose last summer, with many new talents joining.

Chido Obi was the crown jewel of that recruitment drive, snubbing interest from all of Europe to join United, while the likes of Samuel Lusale, Sekou Kone, and Hubert Graczyk joined him at the club.

The Man Utd effect is already clearly visible on one as he has landed a new sponsorship deal to reflect his increased status in the world of football.

Samuel Lusale’s new sponsorship deal, Chido Obi reacts

Lusale joined United in the summer of 2024, the same time as Chido Obi but his arrival flew a bit under the radar as he didn’t have Chido Obi’s eye-catching goalscoring numbers to back him up.

Nonetheless, Lusale is an extremely highly-rated prospect who joined from Crystal Palace and plays on the right wing.

The increased profile that comes as a byproduct of joining a huge club like Manchester United, effectively a brand in itself, has been seen by the player now.

Lusale confirmed on his Instagram account that he has signed his first contract with Nike, generally a rite of passage for any budding football.

He wrote: “Happy to sign my first contract with Nike,” adding pictures of himself signing the contract.

Chido Obi reacted with the raised hands emoji, although a healthy rivalry could soon develop between the two as the striker has previously done ads for Adidas!

Samuel Lusale’s future at Man Utd

Signing a sponsorship deal with Nike is all well and good but the thing Lusale must be hoping for the most is a first-team debut for Man Utd.

Lusale natural position is as a right-winger, a role that doesn’t exist in Ruben Amorim’s setup but as someone like Amad has shown, it’s not about the position, it’s about the skillset it demands.

Lusale is fairly two-footed and his biggest strength is in his pace and trickery, which makes him perfect for the wing-back role in a back-three system.

He can hope to emulate someone like Geovany Quenda, who came through at Sporting under Amorim at 17 and was refashioned into a flying wing-back.

For now, Lusale is not even an established starter for the U18s squad so the road is long but he’s clearly rated highly in the footballing world, as evidenced by this deal with Nike.
