Man Utd legend Roy Keane names his dark horse World Cup pick that ‘no-one has really mentioned’

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has told Micah Richards that one nation has flown under the radar going into the World Cup tournament.

The 54-year-old Manchester United legend has flown out to the United States and is providing punditry for ITV for the 2026 World Cup competition.

Roy Keane will also be linking up with former Red Devils teammate Gary Neville for World Cup content for The Overlap, including for the Stick to Football podcast.

The latest World Cup tournament began on Thursday evening and co-hosts Mexico secured a 2-0 win over nine-man South Africa in their Group A opener.

Man Utd legend Roy Keane reveals to Micah Richards that World Cup team Norway has caught his eye

Speaking in the ‘Micah & Roy’s Road To America’ series on YouTube, Roy Keane placed the all-important spotlight on Norway going into the World Cup.

The iconic former Manchester United captain has tipped Norway as a potential ‘dark horse’ to defy the odds at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Keane pointed to the strengths of Stale Solbakken’s Norway, including Arsenal star Martin Odegaard and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland being in the squad.

“Do you know who I’m interested to see?” he told Micah Richards, as per the Metro.

“No-one has really mentioned them and I’m not talking about winning it, but maybe having an impact… Norway.

“[Erling] Haaland, [Martin] Odegaard, all these boys. Do you know what I mean?”

What does Norway’s path look like at the World Cup tournament after Roy Keane’s endorsement?

Norway are in Group I for the World Cup and Stale Solbakken’s men will face 2022 finalists France in their bid to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.

However, Solbakken’s side will kick off their World Cup campaign against Iraq at the Boston Stadium in Massachusetts on 16th June.

Following the encounter with Iraq, Norway will face Senegal on 23rd June at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Norway will close out their Group I fixtures against 2018 World Cup champions France at the Boston Stadium on 26th June.
