With the club hitting a lowest point in recent memory, who would want to sign for Manchester United right now?
Well according to one report, United’s pulling power is still strong, with French striker Moussa Dembele keen to join in January.
Duncan Castles of the Daily Record report United have been in contact with Dembele’s representatives about a move, and he is willing to make the switch.
Not a given
Once it was taken as a guarantee that players would want to join Manchester United.
Right now we have to be honest, the club does not have the pulling power it did, due to the current predicament and lack of direction from the club’s owners.
A lack of Champions League football reportedly put Jadon Sancho off a move this past summer, BBC Sport reported.
Dembele’s openness to a mid-season transfer is half the battle won.
Lyon are not an easy club to negotiate with during the summer, let alone in January.
The club signed Dembele from Celtic for £19 million and want to make a big profit.
The report claims Lyon value Dembele at £52 million (60m Euros) although higher valuations have subsequently been touted elsewhere.
Dembele has been in excellent form, unlike his club. He has six goals in eight league games, while Lyon have just sacked manager Sylvinho after a start which has left them in 14th place.
A new manager is said to be unlikely to put Dembele off moving to United, as he favours a move to England.
It might be expensive, but with United needing a striker, and Lukaku money just sitting there, it will be more costly for the club not to sign him.
Getting in an ambitious 23-year-old forward on the verge of becoming a French international regular would be an astute move.
Hearing he wants to join is really encouraging. United just need to get to January in a decent state.
It’s a shame the transfer window isn’t open now. We’d say ‘quick, get him in now before he changes his mind’.
