Manchester United are being linked with a move for Eli Junior Kroupi. A balancing act needs to be struck.
In summer 2025, Manchester United’s top priority was to invest in the attack, and it has paid off. The Red Devils have already scored more goals in the Premier League this season (47) than the whole of last season (42) with 12 games remaining.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens was a late signing, a low priority (arguably he should have been a lot higher), and that was reflected in the club’s spending. He cost £18.1 million, and despite the low fee, Lammens has been a top-class addition.
This could be instructive when it comes to Manchester United’s reported interest in Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi.

Manchester United want Eli Junior Kroupi
Manchester United are being linked to prolific young Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi.
Reporter Ben Jacobs told The United Stand that United are on alert over Kroupi, who has stood out as one of the most impressive young players in the Premier League this season.
Kroupi has scored eight Premier League goals this season, including a goal at Old Trafford, showing bright potential at just 19-years-old.
The French under-21 international is an exciting young talent, a goal poacher, who is under contract until 2030.
He won’t be cheap at all. The Sun report that Bournemouth are already looking at offering him another new contract amid interest from top clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, and value him at £80 million.
If Kroupi becomes a truly elite striker then £80 million would be good value in the end – but this is not a figure that actually fits into Manchester United’s plans.

Midfield is the clear priority, and with finances still needing to be balanced, spending £80 million on a striker just won’t be a path forward.

The £18.1 million swoop for the goalkeeper clearly demonstrates that Manchester United do not have to break the bank to land top class additions.
Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all cost above £60 million, and this kind of spending on every signing is unsustainable.
There are bargains out there, we see other clubs find them all the time. Bournemouth’s own network landed them Kroupi in the first place.
Manchester United will have striker as a secondary area of importance to target this summer, and they must take a gamble on a young forward with high potential.
Lammens has shown it can work. United have ramped up the data side of recruitment over the past 12 months, and should already have a shortlist of low-cost range striker targets.
This summer is the time to take that leap, rather than spend huge money on a Kroupi.
