Manchester United have been linked to Mateus Fernandes for weeks but a bid is yet to be submitted for the midfielder.

After wrapping up a deal for Ederson, Manchester United are now moving on to secure a second midfield signing and Mateus Fernandes is the top priority.

United’s data team love Fernandes and believe he will add value to Michael Carrick’s squad, and Fernandes is “desperate” to join United and play alongside captain Bruno Fernandes.

West Ham want £85m for Fernandes and United have been in talks for weeks now. Supporters who are getting frustrated at delays have now been told why the deal is moving slowly.

Man United are not rushing the Mateus Fernandes deal

Reports suggest United could bid for Fernandes shortly and supporters are eagerly awaiting that news.

But a report from the Manchester Evening News has explained why Ineos are taking their time with this deal, and it has to do with a June 30th deadline.

They claim United are being patient and playing it cool as they believe West Ham need cash before June 30, when the next accounting period begins.

West Ham suffered £104m in losses – a club record. After suffering relegation to the Championship, they will need cash to balance their books.

Currently, the Hammers are hoping for a bidding war with Tottenham also interested in Fernandes. But if United sit patiently knowing the player wants Old Trafford, the price could drop as the financial deadline inches closer.

Ineos have earned transfer trust at Man United

There is an anxiety among the fanbase about United’s transfer business this summer, and that stems from over a decade of mishandling under the Glazer ownership.

But there is no denying that the transfer business has improved under Ineos, and last summer’s window was the best in a long, long time.

Ineos, the new data department, Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox deserve the trust of fans to get it right this summer.

The transfer window has only officially been open for a few days, and United have already made one midfield signing and are now pushing for Fernandes. If sitting patiently helps to push through a bargain deal, then it will all be worth it.
