Manchester United look increasingly keen on signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap this summer, so here is everything you need to know about the impressive number nine.

The upcoming summer transfer window is expected to be one of the biggest in recent memory for Manchester United, with a number of positions needing to be strengthened within Ruben Amorim’s squad.

United are set for a summer clearout with at least 10 exits expected to happen, with four to be released and more to be sold such as Antony or Marcus Rashford who are playing their ways toward a permanent exit.

Ahead of the summer, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has given Amorim his backing, and it will be down to Ineos to back this up by signing players to improve the squad, with United having four priority positions, including a new number nine.

Liam Delap therefore has emerged as a potential target, here is everything you need to know about him and the links to Old Trafford.

Latest Liam Delap to Manchester United transfer news

Delap has been labelled a ‘different beast’ by Kieran McKenna, and in his breakout Premier League season, he has impressed multiple big clubs.

United are thought to be joined by Chelsea as an interested party in signing the Englishman. Delap could cost just £30 million with a relegation release clause that Ipswich look likely to fall victim to.

It is thought that Victor Osimhen is the dream, yet Delap is probably a more realistic and affordable option, fitting better within Ineos’ recruitment policy.

Who is United target Liam Delap?

United striker target Delap is quickly emerging as one of the nation’s hottest strikers, despite being early in his career.

Born in Winchester, Delap is the son of former Stoke man and Premier League cult hero Rory Delap, who is best remembered for his long throws.

Delap was a Derby County academy star until 2019, when he joined Manchester City, and he thrived in their academy with loans to Stoke, Preston and Hull, raising his profile to the point Ipswich spent up to £20m on him last summer.

He has had an impressive debut Premier League season that has convinced United to seriously consider a swoop.

How old is Liam Delap?

Liam Delap is 22 years old and was born on February 8th, 2003.

How tall is Liam Delap? What is his height?

Delap stands at 1.86m tall, which is roughly 6ft 1in. This has him one centimetre taller than Casemiro.

What position does Liam Delap play?

Delap is an out and out striker, with natural goalscoring ability and the physical traits to shine leading the line. Delap has played a handful of times as a winger, but if signed by United he will be expected to play up front.

Who has Liam Delap been compared with? How good is he?

Delap burst onto the scene this season for relegation favourites Ipswich, and looks like he has all the tools to be an elite striker in the Premier League.

Unlike Rasmus Hojlund, Delap has a mastery of controlling his body and it serves him well in duels as he often out battles his opponents, which Hojlund has struggled to do for United.

Delap shares similarities with Didier Drogba, many have concluded, with both being so powerful with speed and lethal finishing rounding out his talent which could be perfect for Amorim.

Despite not yet being world class or elite, Delap is on the way to being classed in this category and next season – hopefully for United – he can kick on and prove he is one of the best.
