What Man Utd must do to have a chance at signing Viktor Gyokeres, it would spark exciting Ruben Amorim reunion

Manchester United are in the market for a goalscorer and Viktor Gyokeres is likely to be on the move this summer.

Ruben Amorim will hope to make significant progress in rebuilding the Manchester United first-team squad this summer.

Ineos are under pressure to improve the squad while facing financial restrictions, especially when Manchester United could be reliant on player sales to generate funds.

With United struggling to score goals, Amorim is set to prioritise attacking additions.

Rasmus Hojlund has fallen short of expectations with only four goals in the Premier League. The Denmark international scored his latest on Sunday when he netted the equaliser in United’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

This has led to United being linked with several forward players, including a double Premier League swoop for Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap.

United are also being linked with moves for Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike.

Manchester United eye Viktor Gyokeres on one condition

Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres was one of the first names linked with a move to Old Trafford when Amorim became United head coach.

The Sweden international has enjoyed another remarkable campaign for the Portuguese outfit, making 64 goal contributions (52 goals, 12 assists) in 48 matches.

Since then, it has been suggested that Amorim is keen to reunite with Gyokeres in Manchester, and it is understood that Inoes are watching the striker’s situation closely.

According to German football reporter Christopher Michel, United are among three Premier League clubs interested in signing Gyokeres this summer.

The reporter claims United need to win the Europa League to have a ‘realistic chance’ of signing one of the top goalscorers in Europe this season.

United will not only be granted more spending power if they win the Europa League, but they will also secure qualification for the Champions League. Amorim’s side will take on Athletic Club in the semi-finals, with the first leg taking place on Thursday night in Spain.

At the age of 26, Gyokeres will want to ensure he remains in the Champions League, especially after impressing for Sporting CP earlier this season.

The Red Devils run the risk of being without European football next season if they fail to go all the way in the Europa League. Gyokeres is unlikely to join a club in that situation when he will have interest from an array of Champions League clubs.

Viktor Gyokeres could spark exciting Ruben Amorim reunion

United fans would be excited by the potential signing of Gyokeres.

It was Amorim who unlocked Gyokeres’ true potential after Sporting CP signed the Swede on the back of his impressive performances for Coventry City.

Gyokeres was the star of Amorim’s title-winning Sporting CP side, scoring 66 goals in 68 games under the Portuguese coach.

Perhaps their strong relationship will help convince the player to join United, should the Reds secure a place in the Champions League.
